Syria Calls on the UNSC to Condemn Israel’s Bombing of Damascus Airport

Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Damascus, Syria

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the United Nations Security Council UNSC to condemn the Israeli aggression and crimes against Syria, lastly the bombing of Damascus International Airport (DAM), and to move to hold the culprits behind these crimes accountable and to ensure such crimes are not repeated.

In a letter addressed to the head of the UNSC and the Chief of the United Nations, the Syrian MoFA’s letter read, as quoted by the Syrian news agency SANA:

“At the time when the world celebrates Christmas and the New year, the Israeli occupation authorities insisted on adding a new aggression to its record which is full of acts of aggression and violations of the international law.”

The letter described the Israeli aggression and its timing, notifying the international bodies entrusted with maintaining the world’s peace and security that the Israeli aggression “left two military personnel martyred and two others wounded, causing material damages and putting the airport out of service.”

Linking the latest Israeli aggression to the heinous massacre committed by NATO’s proxy ISIS terrorists against the oil workers in northern Syria, the Syrian MoFA letter added: “This Israeli aggression came three days after an attack by terrorists (ISIS) on 12-30-2022 against the workers of Al-Taym field in Deir Ezzor, killing 10 innocent workers who were heading to their work, and this proves the terrorist coordination between the Israelis and the (ISIS) herds and the close relationship between the two sides.”

Syria also reminded the United Nations Security Council and the Chief of the United Nations about previous Israeli war crimes against civilian infrastructure in Syria, namely the previous Israeli bombings of the Damascus International Airport, the bombing of Aleppo International Airport, and the bombing of the Latakia seaport, all of which have inflicted casualties among innocent people and hindered the supplies of humanitarian aid including that supplied by United Nations agencies.

This Israeli targeting of civilian facilities and infrastructure is not the first of its kind, as the Israeli occupation forces previously targeted the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo, putting them out of service and disrupting civilian air navigation, including the movement of United Nations air transport aircraft designated for the transport of aid and humanitarian work. The Israeli attacks on 12-28-2021 also affected the civil and commercial port of Latakia, which resulted in severe damage to the port, commercial containers, and aid for United Nations organizations operating in Syria.

The letter issued by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed to the head of the United Nations Security Council and the Chief of the United Nations concluded by calling on the supreme international bodies to take measures as per the norms:

“Syria condemns this Israeli terrorist targeting of Syrian civilian facilities and structures, threatening the lives of innocent people and the safety of international civil transport, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and a direct threat to regional peace and security. Syria calls on the Security Council and the General Secretariat to condemn these Israeli aggressions and crimes, and to take urgent action to ensure accountability for it and punish those responsible for it and not to repeat it.”

Naturally, the Syrian leadership and the officials at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs know that no proper action will be taken by the addressee of the above-mentioned letters as was stated in the letters: “The Israeli occupation authorities would not have continued to commit these crimes had it not been for the umbrella of impunity and exterritoriality provided to them by the US administration and a handful of its allies.”

Thank you for the comment, that’s exactly what the last paragraph in the post says. The Syrian leadership knows that, they’re just putting the facts in front of those for when the time comes, all of these letters will be pulled in their faces and shut them up while retaliating.
