The defeat of Al Qaeda Triggers Concerns of the Turkish Government

Turkey

In contrast to the battles against the terrorist gangs of the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA), which the Al Qaeda groups were able to win in recent weeks, the Syrian Al Qaeda offshoot and other subordinated groups of Al Qaeda in the Syrian province of Hasaka have actually lost the battle about the Syrian border town of Ras al-Ain or Serekaniye, how the place is called in Kurdish, against the Kurdish Popular Protection units of the YPG (Kurdish: Yekîneyên Parastina Gel / Arabic: وحدات حماية الشعب).

According to similar reports, the fighters of the Kurdish Popular Protection Units of the YPG were able to gain the complete control about the Syrian border town of Ras AL-Ayn, including the border crossing within the town to the Turkish part in the northern area of the village, which is called “Ceylanpinar” in Turkish, after several days of intense battles and they defeated the operating terror groups of the Syrian Al Qaeda branch, the “al Nusra Front”, in this region.

The battles were triggered by the situation that the terrorists of the Syrian Al Qaeda offshoot have arrested a member of the YPG (Kurdish Popular Protection) despite a ceasefire agreement with the YPG because of an alleged breach of the fasting and headscarf rules ordered by Al Qaeda for Ramadan.

The YPG stated after the battles that two of their fighters have lost their lives in the clashes while nine corpses of the terrorists are in their hands and the YPG was able to capture 25 terrorists, while the rest of the Al Qaeda terrorists fled to Turkey. Syrian activists spread the information in regards to this that also Turkish citizens are among the captured Al Qaeda terrorists in Ras al-Ain.

Al Qaeda and the MI6 affiliated “Syrian Observatory for Human Rights” in England reported after the battles that Al Qaeda has lost 19 members while ten Kurdish fighters have been killed. However, included in this figure are also victims of the clashes between the fighters of the YPG (People’s Protection Units) and terrorists of Al Qaeda in the east of Ras Al-Ain, in the area of the village of Celaxa.

According to Kurdish media, the Turkish military tried to prevent that journalists are able to report about the conflict on location in Ceylanpinar. But Turkish journalists were nevertheless subsequently able to report that angry residents of Ceylanpinar have attacked the terrorists of Al Qaeda in the local hospital. The terrorists were brought to the local hospital of Ceylanpinar after the clashes previously.

The international press also reports about these armed struggles that two people, who were on the Turkish side of the border, would have been killed by “stray bullets” from Syria. Reuters reported that the Turkish army would have published a statement in which the Turkish military reports that they had begun to meddle in the battles in response to the “stray bullets” in favor of Al Qaeda.

According to this, the Turkish army, which has called the YPG a separatist terrorist organization, allegedly started to fire on the fighters of the YPG in Syria from their positions in Turkey. It is further stated in the report by Reuters, that the Turkish government has expressed concern after the defeat of Al Qaeda in Ras al-Ain.

In January of this year, Ras Al-Ain and the local border crossing with Turkey came in its majority under control of the Syrian Al Qaeda branch after an assault against the Syrian border town by the Al Qaeda terrorists that came from Turkish territory; among the attackers from Al Qaeda were also terrorists with tanks.

Unlike the YPG, which is considered as terrorists by Turkey due to their relation to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, the Turkish JDP (AKP) regime is very ambivalent in its attitude to Al Qaeda.

On the one hand, the Turkish JDP (AKP) regime tries to meet the requests for a delivery of Al Qaeda terrorists by the JDP-protection power, the United States, in terms of terrorists from Al Qaeda, even when they have “not committed a crime in Turkey”, but on the other hand, the JDP (AKP) regime, however, has the opinion that Al Qaeda is anything other than terrorism, which is sometimes even publicly stated by representatives of the JDP (AKP) regime.

The Turkish newspaper “Today`s Zaman”, affiliated with the Turkish Erdogan-regime and the pro-regime television preacher Fethullah Gulen, reported after the defeat of Al Qaeda in Ras Al-Ain that the Turkish regime would have stated that it will never accept a Kurdish autonomous government in northern Syria.

The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported, that Ahmet Davutoglu, the Turkish foreign minister, has called on the UN Security Council (UNSC), in regards of the defeat of the terrorists of Al Qaeda in Ras al-Ain against the fighters of the YPG that it has to take urgent measures against the Syrian government.
