Russian air defense systems shot down two drones approaching the Russian military air base in Hmeimim in the late evening of yesterday, Wednesday 20 July 2022.
A spokesperson of the Russian troops in Syria said in a statement:
“On July 20, 2022, at approximately 22:10, Russian air defense systems detected drones approaching the location of the Russian Hmeimim Air Base from the northeast. Two drones (launched by) militants at a distance of two kilometers from the air base were destroyed by Russian air defense fire.”
Is it a message from the Turkish madman Erdogan after his failure in convincing the Russian and Iranian presidents to join him or at least giving him a green light to carry out his promised invasion in northern Syria? Erdogan is the most unstable leader in the world, competing with his US counterpart Biden.
Russia built the Hmemimim air base after obtaining Syria’s approval to expand the existing naval base in Tartous and build an air base to support its operations in Syria in aiding the Syrian army in the war on US-sponsored terrorists, and to extend the Russian network of air defense systems from dangers that might come from the south flank, namely NATO member state Turkey and NATO’s proxies in Israel and the terrorist groups.
Al Qaeda and the other NATO Turkish and US-sponsored terrorist groups have a longstanding fantasy of bombing the Russian military bases in Syria, dozens of attempts to bomb both bases, Tartous naval base, and Hemimim air base. NATO-sponsored terrorists tried to bomb the Russian embassy in Damascus on several occasions before they were defeated on the outskirts of the Syrian capital.
Yesterday’s attempt by Turkey-sponsored Al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists to bomb the Russian air base in Hmeimim caused no harm to the base and no disruption in its operations:
“There are no casualties or material damage, the Russian Hmeimim Air Base is operating as planned.” The Russian military spokesperson concluded in his statement.
