Iranian Foreign Minister: Tehran rejects the production and use of chemical weapons.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has yet again underlined the strong rejection of the Islamist Republic of Iran to the production and use of chemical weapons and he voiced concern about the access of extremists, radicals, and terrorist groups to chemical weapons. Of course, in regards of the situation, the terrorist groups and the chemical attacks in Syria.

In a meeting between the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zari and the Foreign Minister from Bulgaria, Kristian Vigenin, both sides have condemned the use of chemical weapons and warned against the threats if terrorist groups gain access to such horrible weapons. The Foreign Minister of Iran said that Tehran strictly opposes the production and use of chemical weapons and expressed serious concern about the possibility that religious fanatics and terrorist groups have access to chemical weapons.

The Iranian Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, explained that the Islamic Republic of Iran “as a victim of the use of chemical weapons strictly condemns the production and use of these chemical arms anywhere and by anyone.”

During his meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart, Kristian Vigenin, on the side-lines of the annual UN General Assembly in New York on Monday, the Iranian Foreign Minister also said that the disarmament of chemical weapons has to be comprehensive and should take place in every country, which was certainly a hint on Israel. He added that this has to happen because the access of “extremist elements to such weapons poses danger to the region and the world.”

Of course, as mentioned, the new statement by the Iranian Foreign Minister on the side-lines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York are in reference with the events in and around Syria and the US-Russian agreement on Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal. However, the remarks by the Foreign Minister from Iran are also related to the threat that the armed terrorist groups in Syria could have access to these chemical arms in the Arab country.

The Syrian governance of President Bashar al-Assad has agreed to dismantle its chemical arms under an UN supervision some days ago. Afterwards, the Syrian government has sent a list of its chemical weapons program to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which will later probably sent experts to Syria in order to investigate the chemical weapons stockpiles and to monitor the destruction of the chemicals.

It may happen that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will then be responsible for the security and safety of the experts from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in Syria – or even for the transport and destruction of the chemical weapons arsenals.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has meanwhile stated that not only the Syrian government of President Bashar al-Assad should destroy its chemical weapons, but that also the several “opposition forces” should eliminate the chemical weapons, which are in their hands.

The Foreign Minister of Russia further said that Washington tries to blackmail Moscow in terms of the planned resolution at the UN Security Council (UNSC) and that such a policy isn`t helpful to solve the Syrian conflict by political and peaceful means. Sergey Lavrov also said in an interview with Channel One that the Western governments would repeatedly say that “only the regime has weapons and that’s why only the regime could have used them, and the opposition has no chemical weapons, they are cunning.”

However, one could also call the Russian administration a regime. But to be honest, the understanding of the term “regime” differs between Russia, Syria, etc… Compared to Western countries and the United States. While “regime” has a negative meaning in the West, it is almost neutral in Russia or Syria.

Russia’s Foreign Minister afterwards cited some reports from Israel that said that the foreign-backed terrorists were able to seize the districts where some chemical weapons were stored at least two times and that the armed terrorist groups and thus, the “opposition forces”, have their own laboratories where they try to produce chemicals such as Sarin. And Sarin nerve gas is easy to produce. Everybody with some chemical skills is able to make Sarin gas. That`s by far no problem. Even at home by using local shops and internet services.

According to the recent statement by the Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, all the sides who fund the terrorist groups, including the extremists and religious fanatics in Syria, have to find a way to urge that these radical groups hand over their chemical weapons that had been seized in Syria. Not only the Syrian government of President al-Assad has to eliminate its chemical weapons, but also the terrorist forces fighting in Syria for the alleged opposition have to destroy the seized chemical arms.

Sergey Lavrov also mentioned that there is much evidence by journalists and eyewitnesses that the terrorist groups in Syria have received “some shells from foreign countries” that the terrorists did not know and have never seen before. According to the statement, the armed terrorists had no idea of how to use these “new shells”. Sergey Lavrov added: “and then finally they used them.”
