Sheikholeslam: Syria will transfer chemical weapons to Russia.
Another official from the Islamic Republic of Iran spoke in new statements about the Syrian conflict, the Russian proposal on Syria’s chemical weapons, and he finally revealed a situation that was already to expect in regards of the chemical weapons arsenal in Syria and the planned destruction of these chemical arms.
The Senior Advisor to the Iranian Parliament Speaker, Hossein Sheikholeslam, said in his new statements to some Iranian media that Tehran welcomes the Russian initiative to put the chemical weapons arsenal in Syria under an international supervision and that the chemical arms stockpiles will be removed and destroyed.
The Iranian Advisor, Hossein Sheikholeslam, further stated that the Syrian chemical weapons will be transferred to Russia and such a statement comes as no surprise. It was already to expect that Moscow will play a key role in the removal and destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal. However, further details still remain unclear and the information by Hossein Sheikholeslam is not yet confirmed by any side involved in the US-Russian deal on Syria’s chemical weapons.
But to be honest, it is certainly not far-fetched that the chemical weapons from Syria will be transferred to Russia or/and that Moscow will play a key role in the removal of the chemical weapons in Syria. Not to mention that the situation and agreement between Moscow and Washington about the destruction of Syria’s chemical arsenals call for a relevant organization with a military wing and Russia is part of such an organization that would match to such a process.
The ongoing battles and the violence on Syrian soil makes the entire process of the removal and transport of the chemical weapons from Syria to another country very difficult. Not to mention that the investigations of the chemical stockpiles are certainly also a difficult task for the experts of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
Just let some Al-Qaeda-linked extremists behead some inspectors of the OPCW during their investigations of the chemical weapons arsenal in the provinces of Syria… And thus, another pretext for some foreign powers and another event that can easily be used by the Western mass media for the propaganda against the Syrian government. And meanwhile, it is already known that the armed terrorists as well as the religious fanatics and Al-Qaeda extremists in Syria favour beheading as the best measure to get rid of Syrian civilians and people of another religion.
The Senior Advisor to the Iranian Parliament Speaker Hossein Sheikholeslam explained in his statements about the transfer of the Syrian chemical weapons to Russia that officials from Moscow have already announced that Russian units will safeguard the transport of Syria’s chemical weapons and also mentioned that the chemical weapons will be transferred to Russia. And since the Syrian government has joined the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) should pay the costs of the removal and destruction of the chemical weapons. At least, this is what the Iranian Advisor Sheikholeslam suggested and it does not sound far-fetched.
Hossein Sheikholeslam also suggested in his statements that the international community and the international leaders have to set up a fund and to support the dismantlement of the chemical weapons arsenal in Syria. Besides the Iranian Advisor of the Parliament in Tehran, also other officials from Iran have stated that they really welcome the decision by the Syrian government of President al-Assad to join the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and to get rid of its stockpiles of chemical arms. These Iranian officials also called on the Israeli regime in Tel Aviv to follow the example of Syria.
For example, the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that said the move by the Syrian government in regards of its chemical weapons should be followed by disarming Israel of all its Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs). The Iranian FM added that the regime in Tel Aviv (Israel) is “still armed with chemical and nuclear weapons, and the action taken by the Syrian government should leave no pretexts for the Zionist regime, and Israel should accept to get disarmed.”
