Minor Earthquake Strikes Southwest of Aleppo this Afternoon

A minor earthquake struck in the southwest of the city of Aleppo in the afternoon of today Thursday 16 September 2021, the Syrian news agency SANA reported.

The earthquake measured 2.9 degrees on the Richter Scale at 12:36 local time and was at 4.2 kilometers deep, SANA quoted the Syrian National Seismic Center.

This comes almost 2 months after the latest earthquake in Syria reported in the southern countryside of Deir Ezzor, the earthquake measured 3.9 degrees on the Richter Scale and was 36 kilometers deep.

Aleppo also witnessed a minor earthquake of 3.5 degrees on the Richter Scale on the 14th of May earlier this year.

No casualties or damage in properties in these latest earthquakes have been reported. Syria has entered the earthquake era as per the former director of the Syrian National Seismic Center.
