Iran condemns attack on holy shrine of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) in Syria

The spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Araqchi, spoke about the terrorist attack against the holy shrine of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) that is located near the capital of Syria. A group of foreign-backed terrorists fired several mortar shells on the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque. The Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque is located in the southern suburbs of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The attack on the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque (Arabic: مسجد السيدة زينب‎) in the Syrian city of Sayyidah Zaynab in the southern suburbs of Damascus with several mortar shells fired by a group of foreign-supported terrorists has caused serious damages to the holy shrine of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) yesterday.

The holy shrine of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) has already suffered damage in an attack by another group of Takfiri terrorists in June 2012 and previously by a car bomb that exploded on the intersection to the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque in September 2008.

Already in last month, a group of terrorists clashed with soldiers of the Syrian army near the holy shrine of Hazrat Zeinab (AS) in the Syrian city of Sayyidah Zaynab, near Damascus. Now, a group of terrorists has fired several mortar shells on the holy shrine of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) and caused serious damages to the mosque.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas Araqchi, said in his comments about this attack by the foreign-backed terrorists and Takfiri militants against the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque (Arabic: مسجد السيدة زينب‎) in the Syrian city of Sayyidah Zaynab in the southern suburbs of Damascus that the international circles and especially the Islamic bodies have to “fulfill their responsibility toward safeguarding Islamic sanctities”.

The spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack against the holy shrine of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) and further called on all Islamic organisations and sanctities to to their best to prevent “such crimes against humanity” and against such places like the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque (Arabic: مسجد السيدة زينب‎) in the Syrian city of Sayyidah Zaynab.

Abbas Araqchi, spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, in particularly demanded of all international circles and especially by all the Islamic bodies that they do everything to safeguard Islamic sanctities and to condemn such crimes like they were, for example, carried out by these foreign-backed terrorists against the holy shrine of Hazrat Zaynab (AS) in Syria yesterday.

The Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque (Arabic: مسجد السيدة زينب‎) is located in the Syrian city of Sayyidah Zaynab in the south of the capital, Damascus. Shia Muslim tradition says that the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque contains the grave of Zaynab, the granddaughter of the prophet Muhammad and the daughter of ‘Alī and Fātimah.

Sunni Muslim tradition says that the tomb of the granddaughter of the prophet Muhammad, Zaynab, is located in a mosque in the Egyptian capital Cairo. This mosque has the same name as the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque near the Syrian capital, Damascus.

The Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque near Damascus is very famous and became a destination for many pilgrims (mainly Shiites) since the 1980s. Of course, before the start of the conflict and terrorism in Syria, also foreign tourists have visited the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque near Damascus.

The shrine of the Iranian ideologue of the Islamic Revolution of 1979, Ali Shariati, is also found within the Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque in Syria.
