Syria: Current Food Prices in Aleppo

The following is for information only – how much food do currently cost in the blocked and competitive cities in Syria, especially in Aleppo. This information is from a Russian who lives in Aleppo.

While the average salary of a worker in a public sector company is about 25,000 Syrian Lira (about € 268) – if someone has long been employed there. One starts as a rookie probably at 9-12 one thousand Syrian Lira (about 100-130 €). The U.S. dollar was yesterday at 1 USD = 120 SYP (Syrian Lira).

Before the war, the prices for the same food were only a half or even a third of what you can read here below (current food prices in Aleppo):

Mutton – 1,200 Syrian Lira = 12.85 €

Beef – 700 Syrian Lira = 7.50 €

Rice – 80 Syrian Lira, 0.86 €

Sugar – 80 Syrian Lira, 0.86 €

Tomatoes – 120 Syrian Lira, € 1.28

Chili / peppers – 200 Syrian Lira, € 2.14

Paprika – 100 Syrian Lira, € 1.07

Oranges – 50 Syrian Lira, 0.54 €

Apples – 80 Syrian Lira, 0.86 €

Natural yoghurt – 120 Syrian Lira, € 1.28

Strawberries – 100 Syrian Lira, € 1.07

Herbs – 5-10 Syrian Lira, from 0.05 to 0.10 €

Cucumbers – 75 Syrian Lira, 0.80 €

Milk for infants – 500 Syrian Lira, € 5.35

Pumpkins – 70 Syrian Lira, 0,75 €

Falafel sandwich – 50 Syrian Lira, 0.54 €

Shawerma (Shawarma / “Soul Food”) – 120 Syrian Lira, € 1.28

Barbecue chicken – 900 Syrian Lira, € 9.63

Gas cylinder containing 50 liters of gas – 3,200 Syrian Lira, € 34.25
