Syrian Minister: Syria is capable to hurt foes without its chemical weapons.

While an Iranian lawmaker described the US-Russia deal on a framework to destroy the chemical weapons in Syria as non-binding, the Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi also mentioned the chemical weapons in his recent statements to the Lebanese newspaper “al-Ahd” today.

Syria’s Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi said in his interview with this Lebanese newspaper today that the Arab country would have other means beside its chemical weapons stockpiles to hurt its enemies when it is really needed. Al-Halqi added that the agreement by the Syrian government to hand over the chemical weapons arsenals to an international supervision does not mean that Syria is then not capable of reaching a strategic balance in the region “by other ways.”

The Prime Minister of Syria also said in his interview with the Lebanese newspaper that in case that a country has “better suited means” for its purposes than chemical weapons, why should there be “a need for chemical weapons.” However, it remains a bit unclear in the interview with the Prime Minister of Syria, al-Halqi, what means are exactly meant – except of the aerial weapons systems and the advanced missile systems in Syria; but this is probably understandable.

Syria’s Prime Minister further said in the new interview that the decision of the Syrian government to get rid of its chemical weapons arsenals and to join the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in line with the agreement between Moscow and Washington would in no way decrease the ability of the Syrian military to “hurt its enemies.”

Al-Halqi further noted in the interview with the Lebanese newspaper that Syria still has the ability to “neutralize any enemy threat with advanced aerial weapons systems and advanced missile systems.”

As mentioned, also a senior Iranian lawmaker spoke in a new statement about the agreement between Washington and Moscow on the framework for the Syrian governance in Damascus and President al-Assad to verify that it is completely eliminating its stockpiles of chemical weapons and the member of the Iranian National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Avaz Heidarpour, said that this agreement is in principle non-binding.

The prominent Iranian legislator explained in his new statement in terms of Syria’s chemical weapons and the US-Russia deal about the framework for the Syrian government to put its chemical stockpiles under an international control and to destroy them later, that the U.S. administration in Washington “will not be satisfied with the elimination of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpiles.”

The member of Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission added that Washington’s interests are not restricted to the disarmament of Syria’s chemical weapons and that the U.S. administration would also “seek to assess all aspects of Syria’s military might.”

Avaz Heidarpour further said that the Western colonial powers have always restored to threats of military actions against other countries in order to pursue their interests and it seems that the senior Iranian legislator remains very sceptical about the intentions of the United States.

However, this is possibly understandable. So or so, it still remains to be seen what will really happen with Syria’s chemical weapons and in terms of the real intentions of the United States and the other backers and supporters of the terrorism and violence on Syrian soil, such as Israel, Saudi Arabia, Britain and France. Not to mention Germany.

Car bombings are a sign of a failing effort, in my opinion. Suicide bombings are even more so, I think, because of the waste of assets. Cars are not free, explosives are not free, personnel are not free – – such wasteful expenditures are a drain upon whatever gang employs them, besides which these nefarious activities tend to alienate the population, and no guerilla movement can survive if the population has turned against it.

The essential element of guerilla warfare is to win the ‘hearts and minds’ of the population; if that cannot be done, or the necessity is ignored, the movement is doomed, however long it may remain, nominally, alive. The same is, of course, true of an occupying force, witness the antipathy for Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan – – the indiscriminate killing of wedding parties, goatherds and anything at all that can be safely eliminated. I don’t fault either the Iraqis nor the Afghanis for their hatred. Any force which depends upon the slaughter of citizens for the portrayal of the tough guy image is already doomed. It may take a while, but doomed it is.

During Vietnam, Lyndon Johnson made the remark that ‘If we get ’em by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.’ We all know how that worked out.
