Russian and Chinese Chemical Arms Investigation Experts Must be Included – Syria

Russian Foreign Ministry said Russia insists that the international investigation mission tasked with inquiring into the use of chemical weapons in Syria must include chemical experts from Russia, China and the other permanent UN Security Council members.

“The investigations could only be objective if they are conducted by a balanced group of international experts,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on twitter on Monday.

Gatilov stressed the necessity that the group must include representatives of the five permanent UN Security Council members, including Russian and Chinese chemical specialists.

The Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said on March 20th that Syria demands the UN Secretary-General form an independent and neutral specialized technical team to investigate the use of chemical weapons by terrorists on Khan al-Asal in Aleppo.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had stressed that the opposition’s use of the chemical weapons is a dangerous precedent, as it represents a very disturbing and dangerous development in the crisis in Syria.
