Kurdish Groups Plan Temporary Autonomous Government in Northern Syria

Al Qaeda - Al Nusra Front

Saleh Muslim, the head of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), which is affiliated to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and known as their offshoot in Syria, stated that they want to establish a temporary autonomous government in northern Syria, near to the Syrian border to its neighbouring country Turkey.

This is the second statement about an autonomous government of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) / Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the northern part of Syria in the recent weeks and the plan to establish a temporary autonomous government above the Syrian city of Aleppo and near the border to Turkey was already discussed between the main Kurdish parties such as the PKK and its Syrian offshoot PYD as well as with other Kurdish group in the region and especially in Syria and Turkey.

The head of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Syria, Saleh Muslim, said in a new interview about this plan of a temporary autonomous government in northern Syria that his party (PYD) has discussed this proposal already with other Kurdish groups. If an agreement will be reached, so Saleh Muslim, then elections will be held within three months after the announcement of upcoming elections and after the decision to create a temporary autonomous government in the northern part of Syria.

This plan to establish an autonomous government in the north of Syria includes the important fact that this government, created by the Kurdish parties and groups, will run till the conflict in Syria is settled and not longer. It is to mention, to be honest, that there are voices, who do not believe that such an established autonomous government by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) will really be terminated when the conflict in Syria has ended.

The head of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Syria, Saleh Muslim, also confirmed that the Kurdish party, the Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has already replaced the flag of the foreign-backed terrorists and criminals of the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) with the flag of his party.

Also the flags of the Syrian Al Qaeda offshoot, the al-Nusra Front (Jabhat al Nusra) were already replaced in the strategically important Syrian border town of Ras al-Ain (sometimes Ras al-Ayn) after fierce flashes with the Al Qaeda branch in the region.

The Kurdish fighters have finally taken the control of the Syrian town of Ras al-Ain and it is said that at least 40 people have died so far in these clashes between the Kurdish fighter groups and the jihadists and Islamists of the “Jabhat al Nusra” (al Nusra Front) in the area of the Syrian border town of Ras al-Ain since Tuesday. According to some reports, the clashes are partly still ongoing.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region within Syria’s neighbouring country of Turkey since the 1980s and the conflict has already caused the death of tens of thousands of people since its beginning.

The Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan and especially the Foreign Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, have strongly reacted to the plan of the Kurdish parties and group to establish a temporary autonomous government in the northern part of Syria. In addition, it is to assume that the Turkish military has already supported the Syrian Al Qaeda offshoot (al Nusra Front) in the battles against the Kurdish fighters in the border region.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu warned against efforts of whatever side to establish and implement an autonomous administration of Kurds in northern Syria.

He did not care about the word “temporary” in such plans and he would support rather Al Qaeda than a Kurdish group – similar to what Erdogan would do. Under considerations of the recent policies by the Turkish government in the last years, which is already called the “Turkish regime” by more and more people, that the government of Turkey would really more likely support Al Qaeda than Kurds and there are some events in recent days that could be able to confirm this allegation.

Don’t do it. Clean out the murdering thugs, ensure the integrity of the whole of Syria, then come to an accommodation whereby the Kurdish portion has home rule, within a Syrian federation. Turkey will not hesitate to kill every Kurd in Northern Syria if the Kurds declare independence from Syria. Somebody needs to take a long, hard look at the Kurdish leadership and find out who has been bought, suborned or in some other way turned to place his or her own interest ahead of that of the Kurdish people.
