The USA: Global Irresponsibility

Obama & AIPAC

Next week the US Congress is to express its opinion on the reckless and staggering rush of Barack Obama as the President is pressuring the lawmakers to push through his decision to strike Syria. No details are known and they are changing all the time.

The military officials have been asked to revise their plans 50 times since the Pentagon first began considering a «limited» action!

The White House let know that the President is still pondering the prospect of expanding the list of targets to be hit by US missiles. These ill-boding fluctuations only feed into congressional uncertainty making the lawmakers doubt President Obama really knows what he is doing…

There is one factor making the lawmakers inclined to oppose the war. The polls show that any military strike, even a limited one, remains deeply unpopular. No way this mood could be ignored by the House of Representatives (2014 is an election year) where, as observers say, anti-war movement is gaining strength.

On, September 4, the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations endorsed the use of military force in Syria by 10-7 vote (it allows the use of force for 60 days with the possibility to extend it for 30 days, that is enough). As soon as the results of the vote became known, the reporters were quick on the draw to see senators who voted «yes» on the resolution received more money from the defence industry.

No one was surprised to know that Senator John McCain, a leader of the Senate’s hawk faction who supports «regime change» in Syria, came on the top of the list. His patriotic fervour was fuelled by $176,300 of officially registered defense donations. His speeches show the money is not wasted.

According to some reports, Vice President Joe Biden is leading the war party efforts aimed at pressing the case for action before the decisive vote in Congress.

Reasonable people do understand that America is being pushed into the war while there is absolutely no evidence to support the assumption that it was the Syrian government who used chemical weapons on August 21 in a Damascus suburban area (looking at the disposition of belligerent forces that day, the Syrian military should be taken for complete idiots). There is even no proof any chemical attack at all took place at the time in the given area! No proof!

Washington will soon stop mentioning the fact that some evidence allegedly exists somewhere. What’s really important – the provocation has worked! The Obama administration has substituted in advance and quite successfully all evidence related to the «Assad’s guilt» by virtual reality concocted on August 21 by some Saudi, Qatari and British media outlets.

What is it if not primitive, but successful operation which is a phase of information war planned as a prologue to «hot» war? What’s the idea behind it? It’s as simple as that: a hot war in the explosive Middle East with all its victims and hardly foreseeable international repercussions is exactly what is authoritatively demanded by the defence sector of US economy which is the most insatiable military-industrial complex in the world.

David Rohde, a columnist for Reuters and a two times Pulitzer Prize winner, said,«Tomahawk cruise missiles are the latest wonder weapon to be used to lull Americans into thinking they can have war without cost». At that, everything goes to show that Americans will have to say farewell to the wonder weapon in case the United States attacks Syria. This time it looks like America will have to pay and the price will be high. On September 2 Damascus formally announced it would coordinate with Hezbollah an attack against the US ships in the Mediterranean in response to any American strike.

There are other warnings. On September 5 the Wall Street Journal reported that the Iranian message has been intercepted in recent days. It came from the head of the Revolutionary Guards’ Qods Force instructing militants in Iraq to attack U.S. interests in Baghdad in the event the Obama administration launches a military strike in Syria.

The message went to Iranian-supported Shi’ite militia groups in Iraq. The US embassy in Baghdad is reported to be one of potential targets. The State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency declined any comment.

Attending the Saint-Petersburg G20 summit, Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta said the summit is the «last opportunity» to find political solutions to the Syrian crisis. The meeting is over.

Barack Obama, the leader of «war party» had no wish to take advantage of the remaining opportunity. The United States has many times spoken about its «global responsibility». Now, upon the command of its Commander-in-Chief, it is ready to demonstrate what global irresponsibility is like.

Speaking at a final G20 press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia will help Syria in case of external aggression.
