Without going back to distant history, America failed the Kurds more than once in Iraq, Turkey, and Iran. It helped the Shah to eliminate the Kurdish Republic of Mahabad in Iran and to execute its president Qazi Muhammad on March 31, 1947, while Mullah Mustafa Barzani fled to Iraq.
Years later, it failed Barzani again when it asked the Shah to stop supporting him and the Iraqi Kurds after the Algiers Agreement signed by Saddam Hussein and Reza Pahlavi on March 6, 1975. Turkey’s Kurds did not escape Washington’s treachery, as the American intelligence, along with the Israeli Mossad, kidnapping the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, Abdullah Ocalan, from the Greek embassy in Nairobi, and handing him over to Turkey on February 14, 1998, and he has been in prison since that date.
This did not prevent the followers and supporters of Ocalan, the “Marxist revolutionist”, from loyalty to Washington, which sought help from them in its ‘war against ISIS’ after its occupation of Mosul in June 2014. The Kurds sacrificed “their precious and cheap” to serve America, which exploited their loyalty to it and deployed its forces in the east of the Euphrates. Everyone knows that its intentions are completely different from the calculations of the Kurds and those with them from the Arab clans who also conspired with the foreigner against their homeland under different names, as are all other factions that worked for foreign countries, organizations, and agendas that brought Syria and the region to what it has now. There is no doubt that the reason for this is not only these factions, clans, and units, but also the conspiracy of the regimes of some countries in the region, all of which are in the service of Washington and “Tel Aviv” directly or indirectly.
No one paid any attention to the extent of the conspiracies targeting everyone, and no one drew lessons from the experiences of today and the recent past, without any of them even thinking that Washington, which abandoned Afghanistan after 20 years of occupation, will abandon them in one way or another, which is what President Donald Trump has tried in the recent past, when he said on March 30, 2018, “we will withdraw from Syria very soon after we have spent $7 trillion in the Middle East,” but without recalling or reminding us how much America gained in return.
President Trump, 8 months after this statement, and on December 19, 2018, officially announced his country’s withdrawal from Syria, to say two weeks later, “Syria is lost, and only sand and death remain in it.” On February 4, 2019, Trump returned to the war of nerves with his Kurdish allies and spoke of withdrawing, not only from Syria but also from Afghanistan, while retaining some bases in Iraq, to end up talking about staying in the east of the Euphrates only for the oil. And without addressing, even in a single word, the national or democratic rights of the Kurds and their Arab allies within the so-called “Syrian Democratic Forces”.
The leaders of the “SDF” and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units considered President Trump’s statements at first a “stab in the back”, and sought help from France and Britain, as well as “Israel” and some Gulf regimes, to persuade Washington not to withdraw from the east of the Euphrates, at times on the pretext that “this would hinder the fight against ISIS,” and at other times on the pretext that “this will support the Iranian presence in Iraq, and through it in Syria and Lebanon, which will threaten Israel’s security, which is very important to Trump personally,” which was proven by Trump by reversing the decision to withdraw and increasing the huge military aid to the “SDF” and its Kurdish wing, to be an important card in Washington’s bargains with Damascus, Russia, Iran, and Turkey; The most important party in the overall Kurdish accounts.
This American support, along with the French and British, and even the German and Italian, did not prevent President Trump from lighting the green light for the Turkish army to invade east of the Euphrates on October 9, 2019, to control a border strip extending 110 km from Ras al-Ain to Tal Abyad, at a depth of 30 km. The militants of the ‘Kurdish Units’ were forced to withdraw to its south, without being able to object to the American decision, because they are well aware that Washington, which ignored the presence of the leaders of the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party in Turkish prisons five years, may abandon them at any moment, and may even hand over their leaders to Turkey, as it did with Abdullah Ocalan.
Trump personally abandoned the other Kurdish ally, Massoud Barzani, when he announced his rejection of the referendum on Iraqi Kurdistan independence on September 25, 2017, to prove the behavior of his predecessors from the American presidents who deceived his father, Mullah Mustafa Barzani, and all the Kurdish people in the region in general, since America, along with the colonial countries, Britain and France, abandoned the idea of establishing a Kurdish state, which they approved in the Sèvres Agreement of 1920 because they preferred the Balfour Declaration over it.
These colonial countries did not neglect to encourage and provoke the Kurds in the four countries, to fight against each other, in order to prevent them from agreeing on the minimum national interests that they are talking about, and the latest example of this is the current situation between the ‘Kurdish Units’ in Syria and the Peshmerga loyal to Massoud Barzani, who has always allied with Ankara against the ‘Turkish Kurdistan (Party),’ without the Kurdish leaders being aware regionally that Washington and Western capitals do not care about the Kurdish national rights and democracy, but rather that they use them as a card in all of its secret and public accounts and plans, and the goal has always been to serve the Jews and their Zionist project, Washington and its allies have abandoned Millions of Kurds from the region, and gave preference to thousands of Jews who moved them from different parts of the world, and gave Palestine to them as a religious home, but it deceived them, and they are the people of the region every time.
And it has used them as it wished, and without any return, and this is their situation now in Iraq, Syria, and Turkey, no matter what is the talk about their tactical gains that Washington will sacrifice overnight, and they return every time to the zero point in their struggle for their rights in the quantity and quality that is determined by the western capitals, without anyone from the Kurds and the countries of the region drawing any lesson from the experiences of the past one hundred years, and it seems that they will be repeated as long as the human memory is tainted by oblivion!
And the last bet remains on the developments of the near future stage after the American withdrawal from Iraq according to the latest agreement, with its repercussions on the situation east of the Euphrates. The Kurds have nothing but to hurry to understand the mysteries of the next stage without mistakes, otherwise, they will remain a card in the regional and international winds that will blow them, and this time without return, because they are not the “Taliban”!
